The following list is a glossary to aid new listeners/viewers/readers to understand various references made both on the site and on the podcasts. This list is not exhaustive and more items will be added as time goes on. So if you’re a little lost as to why Pat “Hendrix” McTie hates talking animals or why Chris “Bloodshot Robot” Champlin has a penchant for top hats, then read on!
Chromehounds
The Xbox 360 game that brought the crew of Superhappyfuntimeshow together. Sadly no longer supported by SEGA, the game featured an extensive multiplayer mode along side the appeal of driving around in large robots. It was also very pretty. It’s name is still muttered in hushed tones by the SHFTS crew.
Dietricht
SHFTS German correspondent who has a bit of a temper. Usually called upon to give his honest opinion about games and what not. Sadly doesn’t speak a word of English.
Game Review Show
Before the existence of the Superhappyfuntimeshow there was the Kropotkin and Hendrix Game Review show. This ran from March 2006 to December 2007. It was a 20-30 minute podcast that had Chris “Kropotkin” O’Regan and Pat “Hendrix” McTie review a game. Mention is made of it occasionally during the recordings of SHFTS.
Gameworks of Seattle
A bar in downtown Seattle where the crew of SHFTS first met up during PAX 2008. The service was abysmal and the food was barely palatable. It was so bad that the staff even threw bits of it at us for no apparent reason.
Gundams
Pat “Hendrix” McTie has a fascination with these giant robots that herald from the Land of the Rising Sun. No one knows why. When questioned on the matter Pat “Hendrix” McTie simply yells ‘BECAUSE THEY ARE AWESOME!’ and proceeds to make stompy robot like noises.
Jack Speed
A legacy from the Game Review show days, Jack Speed is a fictional character that was made up for a back story to Tourist Trophy, the motorcycle sim that was released on the PS2 and reviewed for the Game Review Show. The story is the old cliche of Jack being an aging motorcyclist who has to come out of retirement to race once again to save the family farm. Since his first appearance his legend spread to the point that he appeared in some form in every Game Review that was recorded. You can see why we stopped that show now can’t you?
Jaguar
The crew of SHFTS are very keen for Chris “Kropotkin” O’Regan to buy a Jaguar car. This is despite his repeated protests at doing such a thing.
Paul Blart: Mall Cop
Quite possibly one of the worst films/movies ever made. Unless of course you are high on Popeye’s chicken grease. Then it’s Citizen freak’n Kane.
Rhythm Action Games
It is the collective opinion within Superhappyfuntimeshow Towers that the Rhythm Action genre, eg Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Rock Revolution etc has jumped the proverbial shark. Mention of these games is therefore strictly prohibited.
Sailing
Chris “Kropotkin” O’Regan confessed during a recording of SHFTS that he was going sailing for a weekend. This was met with derision and much hilarity. His additional admission that he had bought some deck shoes only made things worse.
Shouty News
In earlier episodes of SHFTS, Pat “Hendrix” McTie would yell the first news story as it was written in caps by Chris “Kropotkin” O’Regan, the show’s producer. This was done for the sake of clarity but Pat “Hendrix” McTie thought it was dumb so proceeded to yell it. Mercifully this has now come to an end.
Slomo
A developer who has the ability to sprinkle some magic facet into a game thus turning it into a royal turd. He is very proud of this ability and is often mentioned when a poor feature appears in a game, no matter what it is. His first appearance was when the Game Review Show reviewed F.E.A.R for the PC. Pat “Hendrix” McTie’s PC at the time could not run the game very well so proceeded to lambastes developers for failing to optimise the game engine properly. Thus gave birth to ‘Slomo’.
SuperHappyFunTimeShow Towers
Two shimmering towers of light and silver is the spiritual home of the Superhappyfuntimeshow and Superhappyfuntime Theatre 3000. It is mentioned as the bastion of all that is SHFTS.
Talking Animals
If a game has talking animals in it, Pat “Hendrix” McTie will not like it. The only exception to this rule is Peggle. That does have a talking beaver in it but Pat “Hendrix” McTie feels that Peggle is too awesome a game to be sullied by minor details like that.
Top Hats
Chris “Bloodshot Robot” Champlin really likes Top Hats and no one knows why. He does not however have a liking for monocles.
Two Worlds
Quite simply the worst game ever made. Mention of it within ear shot of a member of the SHFTS crew is met with derision and sometimes even violence. You have been warned!
